Candriam launches a new carbon-neutral fund: what you need to know

The goal of our strategy is to invest in companies that offer solutions to the major challenges posed by climate change. However, investing in these companies does not automatically mean investing in companies with zero CO2 emissions. Even the production of solar or insulating panels generates CO2, primarily because of the electricity needed to manufacture them.

Our ambition is to offset this carbon footprint by funding certified green projects for a twofold “green” portfolio management strategy: the fund targets carbon neutrality while investing in solutions contributing to the energy transition.

We have chosen to fund projects certified by Gold Standard. Gold Standard was initially created by WWR, in cooperation with a broad panel of NGOs, academics and private sector representatives. The certification not only addresses CO2 emissions, but also potential benefits for the socioeconomic development of the country and the participation of the local population in carbon-offsetting projects.

We have selected three types of projects: renewable energy, energy efficiency and reforestation.

We have decided to work with South Pole to guide us in the pursuit of our carbon-offsetting initiative. South Pole is a historic player in the carbon-offsetting market, where it has built up its experience since 2006. With more than 700 directly-owned projects, South Pole offers a wide variety of high-quality carbon-offsetting projects.
